Uploading your self-tape to auditioncam® like a pro

Our bespoke casting software auditioncam® makes it easier than ever to share your best work with casters. With just a few quick tips, you can ensure your audition tapes upload smoothly, quickly, and in top quality every time.

This guide will show you how to set up your phone, prepare your video, and optimise your files for a seamless upload.

Video Requirements

To ensure your audition tape uploads perfectly, make sure it meets these key specifications:

  • Maximum file size: 50 MB or less - uploads larger than this cannot be processed.

  • Preferred format: MP4 - other formats may work, but MP4 provides the most reliable performance and compatibility.

  • Recommended resolution: 1080p HD - the perfect balance of sharpness and file size.

1. Record in the Best Format

Why MP4?
MP4 is the most compatible and reliable video format for auditioncam®. While other formats like .MOV work, MP4 helps ensure the smoothest upload and playback.

For iPhone (iOS): How to record in MP4

  1. Open Settings → Camera → Formats

  2. Select Most Compatible

  3. Future videos will now automatically save as MP4 - ready to upload right away.

For Android: How to check your video format

  1. Open your Camera App → Settings

  2. Look for Advanced recording options or Video format

  3. Turn High Efficiency Video OFF, or select H.264 / MP4

For Samsung devices:

  • Camera → Settings → Advanced Recording Options → Toggle “High Efficiency Videos” OFF

2. Keep Your Video Under 50MB

Why does Auditioncam have a 50 MB limit?
Smaller files upload faster and play back smoothly across all devices. Videos must be under 50MB to upload successfully.

How to keep your video under 50MB:

  • Record in 1080p HD instead of 4K. 1080p provides professional quality with a smaller file size.

  • Trim extra footage before uploading. Most phones have built-in editing tools.

3. Exporting or Converting Videos to MP4

What if my video isn’t already in MP4 format?
If your audition tape was recorded as .MOV or another format, you can easily export it to MP4 without losing quality. Avoid paid third-party converters where possible, as many reduce video quality or add watermarks unnecessarily. However, we find that the below work well.

  • On iPhone or Mac:

    • Open the video in QuickTime.

    • Go to File → Export As → 1080p to save as MP4.

  • On iPhone or iPad:

    • Use the free iMovie app to export directly to MP4.

  • On Windows or Android:

    • Use the free, secure tool HandBrake.

4. Upload Tips for Best Performance

Which browser works best for uploading videos?

  • Use Google Chrome or Safari for a stable experience.

  • Upload over a strong Wi-Fi connection, rather than mobile data.

  • Close other apps or browser tabs to keep your upload running smoothly.
