Casting Success Story: Drop Hits Irish Screens This April

Here at Fishpond, we're proud to be at the heart of the casting process for some of the most exciting film and TV projects shooting in Ireland — and this month, we’re absolutely buzzing to see that work hit the big screen. Drop, the latest thriller from acclaimed US production company Blumhouse, arrives in Irish cinemas on April 11th — and much of the film’s casting was powered by Fishpond.
About Drop
Directed by Chris Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky), Drop is a gripping, high-stakes thriller set against the backdrop of Chicago. The film stars Emmy-nominated actress Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus, The Perfect Couple) as Violet, a widowed mother tentatively stepping back into the dating world. When she meets Henry (played by It Ends with Us star Brandon Sklenar) at an upscale restaurant, she’s pleasantly surprised by how charming and handsome he is. But what begins as a promising evening quickly unravels, as Violet starts receiving a series of unsettling, anonymous messages on her phone — turning her night into something far more sinister.
The Casting Process
While the action unfolds in Chicago, the film was shot almost entirely in Ireland. The local casting process was led by one of Ireland’s top casting directors, Ali Coffey, in collaboration with Blumhouse’s in-house casting director Terri Taylor. Speaking with us about the project, Ali shared:
“When we got a call from Blumhouse to collaborate with them on the casting of Drop, we were extremely excited. I couldn't wait to work with their in-house casting director, Terri Taylor, and her team. The film is almost entirely set in Chicago but shot in Ireland — a sign of our booming film industry and the tax breaks that support it.
For me, the biggest challenge in casting an American feature here in Ireland is always the same: finding Irish-based talent with a flawless US accent. And I do mean flawless. My advice to all actors is to never stop working on that skill until you feel extremely confident in it. There are fantastic roles out there, but that level of detail and preparation is what will open the door.
The casting process for Drop was busy, engaged, and so much fun. Working with Chris Landon was an absolute pleasure — he’s an amazing director and such a kind soul. I can't wait to see the film in cinemas.”
